    Can you please tell me what the botanical name for the palm called ‘ibus’ in Perlis and Kedah. When mature the stem is larger than coconut trunk, and after fruiting only once, the tree dies. The fruit is round about size of your finger in thickness. The leaves are made into mats suitable for drying paddy in. Thank you.

    Hi Ahmad,
    I’m not familiar at all with the palm you’ve described. But googling for answers led me to narrow its ID as Corypha utan (Gebang Palm or Ibus). Check it out at National Tropical Botanical Garden, hope this helps.
