Sungkai Wildlife Conservation Centre, Perak

My beloved John and I took the opportunity to visit the Wildlife Conservation Centre in Sungkai when vacationing nearby at Felda Residence Hot Springs last December. We almost couldn’t locate the place as the receptionist at Felda Residence Hot Springs sent us on a merry-go-round when she directed us to the Convention Centre of Felda [...]

Backyard bird watching in our garden, May 2010

Now you see, now you don’t! Watching the White-browed bulbul (Pycnonotus luteolus) trying to start a family over and over again during the month of May can be debilitating! It was like a see-saw affair, experiencing fleeting moments of hope and joy, and then followed as quickly by sadness and despair for this species of [...]

Our belated garden news for March 2010

Humph! A very much delayed post…blame the lightning that snuffed out our computer and rendered it unserviceable for more than 3 weeks! Nevertheless, better late than never, yes? Kalanchoe uniflora (probable ID) : Lovely unexpected addition to our garden! We walked into a nursery mid-March, hoping to get a pot of Christmas Kalanchoe blossfeldiana at [...]

Memorable June 2008 event in our garden

Everything seem so marvelously perfect in our tropical garden setting in June. Foliage plants were at their luxuriant best, flowering plants/shrubs were happily blooming non-stop, mealy bugs/white flies were least seen, and even the weather was extra kind, neither too hot nor too wet.

White-browed Bulbuls nesting on our Lady Palm Tree!

The month of May 2008 was very significant for us! We have VIP visiting our home garden since the third week of May. A pair of White-browed Bulbul (Pycnonotus luteolus) had finally succeeded in building their nest outside, on our potted Rhapis excelsa (Lady Palm), at our front yard! Yippee, the breeding season/cycle has begun!

Zebra Dove (Geopelia striata) with attractive zebra-like bands

Geopelia striata (Zebra Dove) – Locally known in Malaysia as ‘Burung Merbok’, these Zebra Doves are marvelous to look at as they go about pecking at the edge of the tarred road outside our front yard. Visiting daily and sort of routine-like, they seem oblivious of the surroundings and vehicles plying the route. Sometimes, the [...]

Tropical Wildlife Photo Gallery

Showcasing pictures of all the wildlife and living organisms of the animal kingdom, especially insects, that abounds in our own garden and elsewhere in Malaysia, that we have the pleasure of capturing. Absolutely fascinating! These nature images are compiled in this photo gallery to give you an overview of what’s available in our website, and [...]

White-browed Bulbuls zeroed in on our Java Apples!

Pycnonotus luteolus (White-browed Bulbul) These lovely birds, commonly found in our tropical country, can teach us humans a thing or two about love and romance! They’re regular visitors to our garden and are always sighted flying in pairs, although distancing a few feet from each other as if on a reconnaissance mission! Ever watchful and [...]
